I think this counts as one of the saddest and stupidest things I’ve been told in my entire life. Worse than my old piano teacher, who told me repeatedly at nine years old that I would amount to nothing — at least that was an opinion of me rather than a statement of principle.

It is also indicative of a trend for it to be “uncool” to be a geek. It’s “uncool” to seek to know stuff. It’s “uncool” to be curious and look for answers.

I never really had any love for “coolness.” Most of my life I dismissed “cool” as a synonym for “stupid.”

I am vindicated.
